Markinch is a small town and parish located just outside Glenrothes in Fife.
There are roughly 2,500 people living in the town which dates back to the Neolithic era (New Stone Age). This was a period when human technology began to develop.
The town was very crucial during the industrial revolution as it was home to spinning and weaving production. This sparked up interest from neighbouring villages and soon it became the hub of papermaking with two major paper companies setting up camp in on the outskirts of the town (until they both shut down during the last 15 years).
Nowadays, Markinch has everything you need – a school and nursery, shops, pubs, parks and even a caravan park for holidaymakers to set up camp in.
Though Markinch has developed over the years, there is a piece of history everywhere you turn from the church atop the highest point in the town, to the trails that surround the scenic countryside surrounding the town.
